West Pennsboro Township welcomes you to discover its quaint villages, historical barns and beautiful stone farmhouses.

If you have visited the Veterans Memorial lately, you may have noticed the addition of two memorial plaques. These plaques are in honor of both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters of World War II. The Recreation Advisory Board continues to hold two significant fundraisers to help enable and continue the Revolution of the Veterans Memorial. All improvements at the memorial are funded solely through Fundraising, donations and through the sale of memorial bricks. Memorial bricks are available for purchase, which is a way to honor your veteran. Veteran bricks are displayed along the edge of the sidewalks that surround the memorial. If you are not a veteran, and still want to be a part of the amazing memorial, you can purchase a memorial brick that would be placed within the Friends of the Memorial Area. Please contact the West Pennsboro Township Office for details on a memorial brick purchase or look for the memorial brick application display case that is located at pavilion #4, which is right next to the memorial. Thank you for your continued support of the Veteran’s Memorial located at the West Pennsboro Township Park.
Though the weather was not cooperative, spirits were high and many patriotic veterans, friends and family members braved the bad weather to be part of this event. In addition to the Memorial dedication, a bust for Medal of Honor recipient SFC Randall D. Shughart was unveiled. Ball Field #1 was dedicated with a plaque of LCPL Nicholas B. Morrison. Representatives from all military branches spoke as well as the Big Spring High School Band performed at the event. Noah Smith, Big Spring High School student who won the inscription contest, unveiled the Veteran Memorial granite plaque. The entire dedication ceremony was recorded and CD’s are available for sale. The cost is $20 dollars each and can be purchased at the Township Office.
Bricks purchased for Veterans line the entrance to the Memorial and bricks supporting the Memorial are placed in the Friends of the Memorial Area. Many bricks have already been placed and there is room for many more! Bricks can be engraved with the person’s name, branch of service, rank, dates of service or date of loss. A 4”x 8” brick is $75.00 and the 8”x 8” brick is $150.00. You do not need to be a township resident or veteran to purchase a brick.
Though the dedication ceremony has come and gone, the evolution of the Memorial continues. The West Pennsboro Township Recreation Advisory Council continues to plan for future modifications in the Memorial area.
Fundraising efforts will continue and contributions are welcome. If you have any questions, please contact the Township Office, 2150 Newville Road, Carlisle, PA 17015 or by calling 717-243-8220 for additional information.
